Preparations

My Dad and I leave in 18 days for the little sliver of Africa known as Togo. I'm so excited! I just wanted to test out this whole blog thing and also share with you some details about our trip. We are going to do medical work at the Karolyn Kempton Memorial Christian Hospital in Togo, West Africa. Togo is a small country about the size of West Virginia between Ghana and Benin. The hospital is a 40 bed hospital that serves around 500,000 people. (To put it in perspective, Thomas Hospital is a 129 bed hospital that serves the Eastern Shore area, around 50,000 people.) We will stay on the hospital grounds with other short term volunteers and long term missionaries. For two weeks my Dad will do gynecological surgeries and C-Sections, and I will help. I will also be able to explore other aspects of the medical field by helping in the maternity ward and the outpatient clinic. Please pray for us as we go on this exciting journey to help those in need and spread the love of Jesus Christ.

"As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace"
 1 Peter 4:10

  1. Hello Mary Katherine! I haven't met you but I do know your dad. I have a few blogs including one called The Parent's View about education. I just wanted to say congratulations on the wonderful experience that you are about to have. My best friend from elementary school (a pharmacist) has participated in several medical missions including one to Africa and it was amazing. I look forward to following your trip on your blog. Are you currently in college?
